Even though I’ve lived in Melbourne for over 10 years, I have never once been to a Music festival. After partying for 2 days at Future Music Festival Asia 2013 held in Sepang International Circuit, I finally understood why these outdoor parties are so popular and even addictive. Truth to be told, I wouldn’t have gone if I wasn’t working there but nevertheless it was a great experience!

Our group of girls were dolled up by a team of makeup artists and hairstylist before the vans whisked us off to Sepang International Circuit. The first day was “A State of Trance” where only the main big stage was active the whole night. Of course, the highlight was Armin Van Buuren; World number 1 Trance Producer and DJ. Though I must say the line up was pretty good even though I’m completely out of loop when it comes to Trance music.

As we started quite early, the girls hung out at the VIP Arena to enjoy our Asahi in the fully air-conditioned room. All photos are taken from i Darts Malaysia‘s facebook page, credit to Andy Kho.

Bracing the heat, we went exploring about and the crowd was already building up even at 5pm! You can feel the excitement pulsating through the air.

Gotta say it’s heart-warming to see people from all over the world partying together, and of course I took a special interest looking for the Aussie Flag!

Moving along, we checked out the Club Asahi where we also bumped into Dawn Yang. Isn’t she gorgeous?

Fast forward few hours (during which we were alternating between Club Asahi and the Kabana tent): We have Armin!

Safe to say that everyone thoroughly enjoy the set. Of course, we had to move closer to the stage and danced our butts off!

To give you an idea: We started at 3pm and stayed at the venue until 2am. Once we got back to KL it was past 3.30am! I was largely reserving my energy for the next day so I didn’t feel too tired.

Music lovers were spoilt for choice because there were so many great acts on day 2: Rita Ora, Fun, The Prodigy and even the famous YouTube champion thanks to his horse riding dance: PSY. Although I was very sad to have missed out on the Australian Indie band Temper Trap.

I think there were even more people on the second day! We arrived just in time to watch PSY doing his thing. He kicked off his set with 2 of his less familiar hits before erupting into the infectious “Oppa Gangnam Style” which had everyone joining in. There is a video somewhere of us doing the dance which one day will come back to haunt me, for sure.

I enjoyed the way he interacted with the crowd and he also talked about his upcoming single which is due to be released next month. Apparently, this was to be his last performance of Gangnam style (somehow I doubt it).

Our group moved on to the warrior dance stage afterwards because Fun was taking such a long time to set up. But we did sneak a peek during our bathroom break (a very long one, actually) to catch them doing Some Nights, Carry On and All alone. Missed out on We are young though. I love the showmanship of the band and the soaring vocal of lead singer Nate Ruess.

Excuse the massive Asahi tattoo (airbrush fortunately), we were all walking signboard that night. Oh, also the outrageous silver make up.

The highlight of the night was English electronic dance music group The Prodigy at the Warrior’s dance stage.

I wasn’t exposed to their music prior to this because it’s not really my cup of tea, but they managed to get me head banging and dancing for their set.

My virgin Music Festival experience ended with several bangs…. of fireworks.

Got home after 4am that night. And for the next few days, I pretty much vegged out to get proper rest.

Looking forward to the next one already, and maybe I’ll be in Melbourne for that!
