When it comes to hair, I’m probably one of the laziest person you know. I go to hair salon once a year, usually on my birthday. Few years ago I used to have some pretty funky colours on my hair, though I reverted to black in 2010 and have not touched it since.

Unfortunately, due to stress and possibly old age, my hair volume has actually decreased a lot over the years. Which is why I use the curling tong a lot to help create extra volume. But using curling tong often is really damaging too, which leads to a vicious cycle, really.
So that leads us to another solution, a perm. When Grado Icon Hair Studio offered to do the girls’ (MHB) hair, I took the opportunity to ask for a perm. Incidentally this is right up their alley.

Part of the reason I don’t visit hair salons often is that I hate spending 3-4 hours twiddling my thumbs while waiting for the dye/perm/treatment to set. Fortunately, this will not be the case at Grado Icon. For they do what’s called the “Setting Perm”, using Korean ceramic technology. The setting perm is great for the natural look, usually only the bottom half of the hair is curled. Best thing is, it takes much shorter time than say, Digital perm.

About 4 inches of hair was chopped off, and then it’s time for some treatment before the perm.

Grado Icon uses Sherpa Arimono, a Japanese brand tailored for Asian hair. Besides protecting our hair from the damage from dyeing and perming, they also smell divine, with rich berry rose scent.

This is the most amazing thing about the machine: it only takes about 15 minutes for the perm. And it’s completely painless of course, despite how it looks.

The ceramic ‘rolls’ heat up within 1 minute to 200 C, that’s it doesn’t take long to do the job. After 15 minutes, the curlers are removed and my hair was treated to another round of shampoo and treatment. The whole process took less than 2 hours. Perfect!

The aftercare is pretty simple. No washing for 24 hours. Then I went back to daily washing. There’s no need to style it after washing, air dry or blow dry will do. Although it does help if I twirl it while drying.
Some of my friends are surprised at the short duration for the perm, so here’s a pic 2 weeks post perm.

Thank you, always kind with your compliments. 🙂
I’ve always been afraid of perming babe! hahah. My previous perm session fucked my hair up terribly. Glad u like urs! xoxo
Yeah I don’t like doing anything drastic to my hair for fear that I’d lost all of it. Last time I bleached my hair super blonde, I lost half of my hair and have never really recovered.
Love you new hair do babe! Blessed New Year to you and Frank!
Happy New Year to you and uncle! 😀 See you tomorrow night?
oh yeah!
Wow. New year hair! Lovely. 🙂
Thank you! Happy New Year!
Gosh, the hair technology has certainly gone very far! That perming gadget looks like something from those alien movies 🙂 [alien got Kelly’s hair..arrghh!!!!] Anyways, a pretty girl like you will look good in any hairstyle 🙂
Hahahaha yeah it was my first time doing a perm and it certainly looks very intimidating!
Wow,, you are a singer as well !! The new looks is great.
Thank you, yes indeed. The singing doctor, haha!
the torture device looked like an octopus with many hands… lol
love the soft natural curls effect! I always wanted curls but at last, its time consuming to manage it. maybe this one will be different… anyhow… you look gorgeous as always.. straight ot curls… 🙂
This is super low maintenance. Most of the time I just wash and let it dry like that. Plus it’s fast, definitely a bonus.
Your hair is gorgeous. I think I might’ve squealed and ran away though when that machine was lowered. Hee!
LOL! Indeed it looks quite scary!
I’m getting my hair done soon too 🙂 I have BAD regrowth hahaha ~ I love the permed hair it really suits you!!! YAY!
Love it! I just had mine chopped off to slightly pass the shoulder.. waaaaaa
Liberating? hehehe
Kelly,
I guess we share the same problem with hair. I have an oily scalp that causes the hair to be unhealthy and breaks often. Try changing your shampoo, it may help.
My scalp isn’t oily. Funny thing is my hair is actually quite healthy, but falls out whenever I’m stressed. I’m using Sherpa Arimono shampoo now which supposedly contains less chemicals. Hope that will help.
