Last week, GUINNESS® kicked off the launch of Merry GUINNESS® with an intimate party at Dirty Nelly’s Life Centre, featuring local singer-songwriter Vince Chong to bring early Christmas cheer. Coincidentally, Vince Chong’s debut Christmas album was also launched on the same night.

So what more appropriate way to mark such a milestone than a mini concert by Vince Chong singing the selections from his album ‘With You This Christmas”? Over 100 lucky guests including his loyal fans, family, local TV personalities and media people got to enjoy the tunes which he sang for the very first time in public. We also got to sample the dishes Dirty Nelly’s has to offer, along with some pints of perfectly poured GUINNESS®.

Here’s what Vince had to say before starting his little showcase: “It gives me great honor to be part of the Merry GUINNESS® party because GUINNESS® become synonymous with the Christmas celebration. My Christmas would not be complete without having a pint of GUINNESS® with friends and family.”

Vince added, “This year’s Christmas is even more significant for me as I launch my latest album and first collection of Christmas songs. What’s even more meaningful is being able to share this album with some of the closest people in my life, my family and friends of course. And its amazing to be able to share this Christmas and perform alongside with them for my album launch. I could not think of sharing this moment with anyone else and of course spread some new found cheer and sound to the Christmas festivities in Malaysia.”

It was my very first time listening to Vince Chong and I must say that I’m pleasantly surprised by his smooth R&B tone. I enjoyed the fresh arrangements of the Christmas Classics including “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”, “The Christmas Song”, “Winter Wonderland” etc. There’s also a brand new original song called “With You This Christmas”, penned by Vince himself with his producer.

He was also joined on stage by local TV host and singer Burn, producer and arranger Daniel Veerapen, his sister Vanessa Chong (You might know her as the part of the Chong sisters in The Amazing Race Asia), and his brother Sean Chong (who might or might not have been possessed by Mariah Carey). What a talented family!

The album, titled ‘with you this Christmas’ was co-produced by Daniel Veerapen, whose father is the local music hero, Michael Veerapen. Some of the tracks include his father on the harmonica, followed by Daniel’s on the piano.
