Ali, Muthu and Ah Hock

If you have been to Tom, Dick and Harry’s Pub in Scott’s Garden or Taman Tun Dr Ismail, you’ll be delighted to hear that they have recently added yet another outlet to their belt. The name is rather amusing and clever at the same time as they have used the common names of the 3 main races in Malaysia: Ali = Malay, Muthu = Indian, and Ah Hock = Chinese. Quite apt considering this is a Malaysian version of Tom, Dick and Harry. I wonder if they really have staff with these names?

This outlet is situated in Oasis Condominium in Ara Damansara. The menu consists of your typical Mamak food: Nasi Lemak, Lontong, Mee Goreng etc, and it’s pork free. Alcohol free too it seems.

Current Simplified Menu: More Items to be added soon!

One sunny afternoon, few days after they opened their doors for business, we decided to pay a visit. The first thing we noticed was the crowd seems to be almost exclusively TDH’s loyal customers, which means familiar faces everywhere. The big bosses of TDH were all there too. Good to see that people are showing such great support for the outlet. After scanning through the menu we knew what we wanted: Nasi Lemak of course!

Nasi Lemak with Fried Chicken

They were really quick to deliver the dishes, within 5 minutes of ordering. Thanks to the Nasi Lemak station where they have a few staff assembling the dishes. This was a huge serving. The rice was extremely fragrant with the coconut milK, and sambal has a good kick and flavours were good, just a tad too oily. And the chicken? Wow! Crispy and bursting with flavours. Very satisfying plate of deluxe Nasi Lemak. I immediately regretted my choice of Nasi Lemak Biasa (Normal) which doesn’t come with the Chicken (because I wanted to try the Mee Rebus too). But Louise was nice enough to share.

Mee Rebus

My Mee Rebus came slightly later. The presentation is excellent. Unfortunately the gravy was not as tasty as I had hoped, perhaps just a little more salt or stock would be sufficient to improve this. But I enjoyed the various crispy toppings and the noodles still have a bite to it.

“Pulled Tea”

Of course, I ordered the Teh Tarik to complete the Mamak experience. It was frothy and creamy, not overly sweet, just how I like it. They did forget the order initially but that’s understandable since it is a new outlet and they were absolutely full that afternoon. Otherwise service is polite and welcoming. To our surprise, our meal was paid for by one of the  owners, Ernest. Thanks Boss!! We will be back soon! This time I’ll get the Ayam too!

I would love to see some Char Kueh Tiaw, Hokkien Mee or Laksa in that menu to complete the Chinese component.
