Viva Italia Sunday Brunch, Prego Westin Kuala Lumpur

There’s always this one thing I associate Italian food with: heartiness. No matter the dish, you know heart and soul is poured into creating them and the best produce are showcased. And when it comes to Italian restaurants, you really can’t go wrong with Prego at Westin Kuala Lumpur.

Years ago I’d had the pleasure of sampling their Sunday Brunch and I must say it was indeed a memorable meal. With my hectic gig schedule especially during the weekends, a Sunday brunch is the perfect way to pamper myself and totally unwind. Kevin and I have been talking about going for brunch for ages and we finally had the chance! Since we only only get to do this once in a blue moon we decided we’d go all out with the Moet & Chandon package!

At Prego, one can enjoy the carefully designed and handpicked dishes by the Culinary team of Prego led by Chef Marco De Cecco. The Sunday brunch selections are set to transport diners through an Italian culinary journey with authentic dishes atop the buffet counters.

As per most buffets, there are several sections. At Prego, we would start with the Seafood and cold cuts counter, antipastos & Salads, cheese counter: than move on to the hot dishes: roast meats, braised meat, soup etc, and lastly the dessert bar. Apart from these, there are also table service: the Chefs will periodically bring out freshly made Risottos, Pastas and Pizza throughout the brunch.

Look at this beauty! I had this last time and glad to encounter it again. The flesh is so wonderfully soft and savoury! The raw oysters here are really good too.

Some of the cold cuts available: my favourite has to be the Angus Beef Carpaccio. Such tender meat! Totally satisfied my carnivorous appetite.

The cheese counter is also amazing. I helped myself to everything and my favourite has to be the gorgeous Gorgonzola.

Some of the antipastos selection: don’t miss out on the Caprese salad, Frittata and Seafood salad.

Moving on to the roast section: there were Roast Beef, Roast Lamb, Roast Chicken, Fish of the day and accompanying Roast vegetables and Potatoes. Meat eaters are definitely spoilt for choice. I absolutely loved the Roast beef.

Slow cooked dishes included the super moreish Braised Beef cheeks and Braised Beef Short Ribs. Both have addictive flavours.

Before we could say anything, this was gently put on our table. A whole plate of Risotto! I had to try a little bit as the aroma was way too alluring. The seafood was wonderfully fresh, the rice is cooked very Al Dente, just how Chef Marco does it back in Italy. Seafood bisque was used as stock so the whole dish was crazily umami. Yum!

There were a few types of pizza going around and we decided to give this one a try. It’s topped with anchovies and capers. Very simple but flavours were punchy.

All these while our Champagne glasses kept getting filled up. Lunch was getting progressively giggly. And of course, we passed by the beautiful dessert display while entering the restaurant and I had my eye on their Tiramisu.

Look how gorgeous it is! Tiramisu is my favourite dessert and trust me, a lot of people don’t do it that well. Sometimes it’s made too complicated (No nuts on my tiramisu please). Here it’s back to basics, Mascapone Cheese, Sponge Fingers, Cream, Cocoa Powder and a good hint of coffee. I had 2 servings and that was my dessert quota of the year I guess.

Some of the other exquisite desserts on display.

Needless to say, Kevin and I went home with happy tummies. Thank you Prego for your superb hospitality!
